365
In 2009, my wife and I decided to attempt Project 365: one photograph per day for one year. My goal was to create a truly good photograph each day, though I fell short more often than I succeeded. However, in spite of many below average photographs, I am thankful to have forced myself to take far more photographs than I otherwise would have, including a few that make the whole project worthwhile. :)

[365.017] Floral Star Alameda, California — January 17, 2009 Another in the 'Essence' series -- this time, focusing on the star shape of the flower, and the characteristic colors (purple center, orange stamens, white petals with purple outsides). I'm not sure what these are even called (someone help!) but they are so noticeable whenever I see them. I like that this photograph is the opposite of what you would normally expect. Normal flower macros have the center in sharp focus, and the petals gradually fade to a blur. Here, only the tips of the petals are in focus so that the shape and color are the primary subject rather than the fine detail of the flower's center. © Brendan Cox — All Rights Reserved
